I think it's great. J.C. and I both love it. I'm not sure if I like it MORE than Colors, so I'd say I both like them in their own ways. Colors seems to have much more replay value, while TGM has much better riffs, and many many more melodic sections, which is why I like this band in the first place.
Brooks, on the other hand, hates TGM for some reason!

I have to say I can't bear to listen to TGM anymore. A great disappointment to me. Feels like a "Colors 2.0", no risks, no surprises... I expected something else.
As to what I'm listening to, well, still banging to some old school material
Today's playlist was :
Thrash 'til death !

How is this album? I called in and talked to Devin on this metal show; insanely nice guy, but have yet to check out this album.

This is a tremendous record by one of the few real geniuses in the business today... It sounds refreshing, it sounds like Devin and at the same time like something entirely new ; really fucking cool. Great songwriting, great singing (Devin's clean vocals are absolutely amazing here), and a great addition in the person of Anneke von Giersbergen, who fits perfectly. Ki was a blast, this one is too, and there's two more to come ! This guy is crazy.
Check this song out : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FapZvIKSrx0
The part starting at 2:15 is mindblowing, and I'm not jusrt saying this. The intensity of it is almost mesmerizing.
Anyway, I'm currently listening to the greatest love song ever, which is, of course :
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – You're All I Need to Get By
If you wanna check by yourselves, it's there : http://www.deezer.com/listen-1101763
Have a girlfriend/boyfriend ? Just play it. Magic.

Re: What are You listening to at the moment?
For some reason no one can make songs like this nowadays... Great lyrics (written by a real-life couple, Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, this explaining that), great music (courtesy of The Funk Brothers, one of Marvin's early bands) and an overall great performance. There's groove and feeling, and truth to this piece of music. Like Marvin's latter works, it's also kinda different from the usual Motown sound... Feels much more organic.
So-called "soul/r'n'b" artists of our time are lame and even un-musical to me. There's something simple in the way this song (and many others ; btw, every Gaye/Terrell duet is a fucking classic) conveys emotions. This way of doing things got lost along the way, sadly. Today you have some random bitch moaning about her cellphone or the last night in the club or shit, with some bullshit beat and some synthetic clapping for a musical excuse. It's barely bearable.
EDIT : here's the cover for those interested. This is a masterpiece when it comes to soul and love songs. Every song is just awesome.
But right now, I'm starting my Dime week, like every year...
For those of you who don't know, Pantera released four albums previous to Cowboys From Hell, this one was the first with Phil on vocals. Still pretty much glam all over, but Pantera nonetheless. and Dime was already a fucking master. Check the solo from Death Trap :

By the way, the second guitarist on this vid is none other than Kerry King, who came to play with the guys that day. The whole bootleg is on Youtube, including Dime and Kerry sharing licks, Phil screaming his head off on "South on Heaven", everyone jamming on some Priest, and so on. Awesome.

Re: What are You listening to at the moment?
Today was the Vulgar Display of Power day. Gave it a spin this morning and will probably do again later today. What can I say ? This record saved metal in the 90s. A milestone in the history of rock'n'roll.
Also a friend of mine introduced me to this band called Lazarus A.D. and FUCK they are good. They play a modern but old-school-flavoured brand of thrash that's been sticking my brains to the wall for the past few days, plain and simple. Amazing debut album !
You like thrash ? Like, love to headbang along and sweat and bounce in the pit ? These guys are you new best friends, trust me !

Re: What are You listening to at the moment?
Classic. From the great 1988/90 thrash/death scene...
This ain't the well-known Incubus btw, it's a completely different band.
Re: What are You listening to at the moment?
