I've been meaning to really get into these guys, a la PN09 (Europe). They seem so original, it's awesome.

they really are original, but also so mind blowing, and still enjoyable without going over the limit. they are just freakin' good :p

Well I tried to attend the UneXpect set in Paris when the PN09 was in town last October, but, well, how can I put this... Doesn't work for me. I already had trouble with the album but their live act is just not for me (I guess). Looked nice but my ears ached.

Yeah they're the kind of band where you either love them or hate them. I haven't given them too much of a chance yet but so far I'm not really into them.

I don't hate them ! I just don't see the point. Experimentation, originality ? Others do it best imho. And rest assured, I listen to something else ; btw, you won't see me bitching about bands I don't like... I rather emphasize on bands I like

I haven't had a chance to delve into this one yet. Been sitting on Ashes and Sacrament for awhile. Sacrament is my favorite so far.

Well this one is a bit different... Sacrament was really hard and fast, but here they went for a cleaner sound and melodic parts – without compromising the violence in any way, and the result is brilliant. Terrific album. Tracks like "Grace" or "Contractor" (the whole album leaked on Youtube so give it a try) are amazing, and overall they seem to still be evolving which is always a good thing in my book.

Anyway, currently listening to :

Working all night long (it's nearly 5 am here), so of course music helps – A LOT. Now indulging myself with some Glenn Gould ; more specifically, JSB's French suites. By the way, I'd like to know what you all think of Bach as musicians... Many people find his style weird and (sometimes it's understandable) overly complicated, but I find it refreshing and exceptionally modern.

And Gould is like JSB's second coming. His input is beyond mere interpretation. There's madness and rage, and passion in his playing.

Testing out my new sound system and just happened to be on A Nightmare to Remember by Dream Theater. Before that it was Pantera's 'Fucking Hostile' I believe. Trying to get a good chunky/metal sound for the EQ!

Well, obviously the best part about J.S. Bach is his use of counterpoint. However, I don't particularly like the music of Bach, only because writing a paper on the Goldberg Variations was not fun!

Oh yeah, I'm listening to Bloom by Scale the Summit.

It's probably been ten years or so since I really got into this kind of stuff... But damn is this record good. There's a NIN-meets-Devin Townsend Project kinda vibe here that's really working with me. Took some spins to kick in, but then, just WOW.

GODDAMN this has been a good day. I've just listened to two fantastic records !

First one was released last year :



Cool prog metal from Norway, with lots of twists and turns throughout... The Mars Volta meets Myxomatosis, with some heavy stuff going on here and there. Really fucking cool ! Whole album on Deezer for those interested.

And I just got a promo release of the upcoming Ihsahn album, its third one as a solo artist... What can I say ? This is fare better than what I expected, and I expected a LOT.



Weird cover, yeah. But the music grabs you by the balls (sorry ladies) and doesn't let go until the very last seconds. INTENSE would be a perfect word to explain what kind of power lies on this record, if only there weren't so many more... Fascinating, captivating, one can't help but feel strangely taken by this fucking tidal wave of an album. Impressive. Emperor meets King Crimson, with a sax ! This is crazy and yet it works wonderfully good.

And now I'm in a terrible dilemma... Which on will I play again ?

Listening to Dave Brubeck. Great stuff. Blue Rondo a la Turk to be specific.

I saw BTBAM/Cynic/Scale the Summit/Devin Townsend Project this past Sunday by the way. Amazing, amazing show!
